The Award for Best Screenplay was attributed to Rajko Grlić and Ante Tomic for The Constitution (Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, 2016) directed by Rajko Grlić, for the following reason: "a wonderful example of a complex story that plays with various kinds of prejudices. A heavy topic that becomes accessible through irony and light tones."

Press release: The Constitution (Ustav Republike Hrvatske) directed by Rajko Grlic, picked up for US Distribution by Synergetic. Plans to release theatrically later in 2017.

Tom of Finland to open 40th Goteborg Film Festival

"Tom of Finland" has been selected to open the 2017 Goteborg Film Festival.
Directed by Dome Karukoski the picture stars Pekka Strang (Kites Over Helsinki), and the screenplay is written by Aleksi Bardy based on a idea by Dome Karukoski. Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales, and Finnkino will release the film theatrically in Finland.

PAUL is a documentary film about a 13 year old boy from the Dunoon township in Cape Town, South Africa, named Paul. Paul has a dream, a dream he thinks about all day; he wants to be surfer. But boys from Dunoon township don’t surf.  There is no transportation to the beach and there is no money for equipment. Fortunately, there is a non-profit organization that picks up Paul to go surfing at the white beaches of Blouberg.

The Pula Film Festival took place from 18 to 26 July 2015 in the ancient roman city of Pula. The documentary film Streetkids United II - The Girls From Rio was selected for the Dizalica program (youth program) and the Street Child World Cup Photo Exhibit, shown at Galerija Makina, was also part of the official festival program. Streetkids United II - The Girls From Rio was also selected for the HT VOD platform MaxTV in Croatia and both the film and the exhibit received a fair share of publicity.

Shooting began in Stellenbosch yesterday on the Isango Company’s version of Puccini’s La Boheme: BREATHE - Umphefumlo, adapted for the screen by Pauline Malefane and Mark Dornford May, under the musical direction of Malefane and Mandisi Dyantis. Isango’s Dornford May produces with Vlokkie Gordon of Advantage Entertainment. The film is a partnership between Isango Advantage, and the UK’s Film and Music Entertainment (F&ME) and Germany’s Propeller Film.

The first ever Georgia-UK co-production just wrapped its six week shoot in Georgia and is now in Frankfurt, Germany for the final leg of principal photography. Film and Music Entertainment co-founder and producer Mike Downey spoke to Maria Sell about the project.

Ben Hopkins' Epic is a major International co-production between the UK, Germany, Russia and Georgia. Principal Photography begins in Georgian Capital Tbilisi on Sunday 13th. 'Debt,' 'Iceland,' 'Mission' join lineup

U.K. production shingle Film and Music Ent. has added a string of European co-productions to its lengthy slate.

Finnish director Joona Tena’s psychological thriller "The Debt," his follow-up to local hit "FC Venus," is limbering up for a spring shoot in Wales on a Euros 2 million ($2.9 million) budget.

Agreement covers at least a dozen films

London-based shingle Film and Music Entertainment has signed a distribution deal with U.K. indie distrib HB Films, which will see HB release at least a dozen F&ME co-produced pics.

Initial releases under the deal will be a re-release of Milcho Manchevski’s Oscar-nommed "Before the Rain" and Danish thriller "Murk."

London-based film distributor HB FILMS and leading UK independent film production house Film and Music Entertainment (F&ME) have joined forces to release a slate of F&ME’s co-productions as well as third party acquisitions from their European and US production partners. Initial films to be released in 2008 include a re-release of Milcho Manchevski’s Academy Award Nominated and Venice winner Before the Rain and Danish thriller Murk written by Thomas Jensen.

Prolific London indie production house, Film and Music Entertainment (F&ME) , run by Mike Downey and Sam Taylor announced this week start of principal photography on three feature film projects, all European co-productions shooting in Iceland, Croatia/Herzegovina and China/Sudan. Post production on all three will take place in London.
